The history of Hong Kong art, particularly of the contemporary period since the 1980s, has yet to be distilled into a dominant narrative. For researchers, this makes the task of combing through its diverse threads both a challenge and a delight.

Asia Art Archive currently holds over 26,000 research materials related to Hong Kong art, making it the largest collection of its kind. A wealth of metadata has been generated through the development of this database, creating new possibilities for statistical and data analysis.

To this end, digital humanities specialist Dr Eric Chow will conduct statistical analysis on AAA’s Hong Kong collections. Artist Kaliz Lee represents these findings through visualisations, aiming to inspire fresh perspectives on Hong Kong art history.

香港藝術的歷史，尤其是1980年代起的當代藝術時期，尚未形成佔主導地位的敘事。對研究者來說，梳理其林林總總的脈絡既具挑戰性，又充滿樂趣。

亞洲藝術文獻庫目前收錄超過26,000項香港藝術資料，為現存同類檔案中最大型的數據庫。隨著館藏與日俱增，大量元數據（metadata）亦隨之衍生，能夠用於統計和數據分析。

為此，文獻庫研究團隊邀請了數碼人文專家周浩智博士對文獻庫的香港館藏進行統計分析，並由藝術家李彥樅以圖像呈現研究結果，旨在啟發我們以嶄新角度思考香港藝術史。

In today’s age where search results are increasingly filtered through keywords and algorithms, AAA’s database of Hong Kong art book covers offers users a renewed digital experience to browse Hong Kong–related exhibition catalogues and monographs found in AAA’s Library Collections. This interactive interface, which features sorting by publication decade and colour saturation, not only reproduces the element of serendipity, but also reveals trends in book cover colour and design across the years, providing an unexpected glimpse into Hong Kong’s cultural landscape.

在現今這個由關鍵字和演算法主導資訊搜尋的時代，文獻庫的藝術書籍封面圖庫為圖書館館藏中與香港藝術史相關的展覽目錄和作品集提供不同的網上瀏覽體驗。這個互動介面的特點之一，是可按出版年份及色彩飽和度為藏品排序，使用者能享受偶然發現的樂趣，亦能從中看到色彩和設計的趨勢，一覽香港的文化景觀。
